Tax Credits for Home Heating Improvements in Oregon

Are you considering replacing or upgrading your current heating or cooling system? If so, it may benefit you significantly to do so before the end of the year. The Residential Energy Tax Credit program (RETC) for Oregon homeowners is set to expire December 31, 2017. This program exists to ease the burden of the expense when purchasing energy efficient heating and cooling systems as well as some appliances.

Homeowners and renters who qualify can receive up to a $6,000 credit on state taxes. By combining the residential energy tax credit with reduced utility bills, many property owners recoup the system installation costs for their improved heating system.

Dates to be Aware of:

To qualify for a tax credit:

  • RETC devices must be purchased by December 31, 2017;

After purchasing and installing qualifying equipment, the application process is complete by filling out a tax credit application and submitting it to the Oregon Department of Energy.
